Nearby Lone Star College is hosting Pride and Passion: The African-American Baseball Experience from now through August 27, 2010. Lone Star College is one of only 25 locations selected for this traveling exhibit - a proud National achievement for a great local university. The exhibit contains artifacts from the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, Cooperstown, New York, and explains and documents the challenges and achievements of African-Americans in baseball from post-Civil-War to building and playing in the segregated baseball leagues.
There’s a local aspect to this exhibit, as well, examining the Texas teams of Galveston, Dallas, and more. There are also several day and evening talks and discussions about the history, and a full schedule of the events is available, or you can call 281-290-5276 for more information. The exhibit will be at the Lone Star College Library, located on the LSC-CyFair campus at 9191 Baker Cypress.

Cy Fair is seeing great growth in employment and education over the next year. First, very-successful tech company Sysco has bought the old HP building on 290 and will be providing thousands of nearby jobs to the area, starting now with a skeleton crew and heading to capacity over the course of the next three years. The building is over 669,000 square feet. This is a great step for the entire Houston area - and it begins in Cy Fair!
Next, Lone Star College broke ground June 28 on a new 63,000 square foot facility at its Lone Star College Cypress Center, located at 19710 Clay Road. The building is scheduled to open for the fall semester in 2011, and includes classrooms, labs, satellite center, and administration offices. The Lone Star College system is a great educational resource for the Cy Fair and surrounding areas.
This kind of job and education expansion shows that Cy Fair is THE place to live in the Houston area!
