Lone Star College-CyFair kicks off its Fall Learning, Inspiration, Fellowship, and Enrichment (L.I.F.E.) program with offerings through September held each Wednesday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am. These are free classes at the campus library in room 131.
During September you will have the opportunity to meet an award-winning author, become a better sketch artist, learn the stars, and strengthen your bones.
Sept. 7 - Etch a Sketch LSC-CyFair professor and artist Tony Kram teaches the techniques of sketching a portrait. Have you always enjoyed drawing and want to take your abilities to the next level? Or maybe people have trouble even identifying your stick figures. Regardless of your artistic abilities, this class will show everyone the fundamentals of creating a good sketch.
Sept. 14 - The Indian American Experience in Literature Award-winning author Chitra Banerjee Divakaruni will be on hand to discuss her book “One Amazing Thing,” a title Book List calls “a wise and beautifully refined drama” about a diverse group of nine people trapped in the basement of an Indian consulate in America during an emergency with the flood waters rising. Each person tells the story of their lives as the floodwaters rise in this gripping tale of survival. A book signing will follow the discussion.
Sept. 21 - Beyond Calcium As we get older it is critical to be aware of our bone strength and density. In today’s society where it is difficult for some to live an active lifestyle and get the proper nutrition, bone strength is even more important. Plenty of calcium is a good start, but more is required. Dr. Chase Hayden of the Hayden Institute will give advice on some alternate ways to improve bone density and avoid breaks.
Sept. 28 - When You Wish Upon a Star
LSC-CyFair professor Ronnie Nespeca leads a seminar featuring virtual stargazing as you become an amateur astronomist. Learn about the constellations and how those stars work. Nespeca will also discuss how stars have guided voyagers and observers for thousands of years, to when the heroes of Greek mythology were given places amongst the stars in memory of their deeds.
