Cypress-Fairbanks and Cypress Creek Lakes residents have been attending or enjoying programs from Lone Star College Cy-Fair for years, and now the college is expanding to reach even more students and community members.
Among the many new projects moving forward at Lone Star College Cy-Fair residents can look forward to more space at the main campus, with an expansion of the 450,000 sq ft building at Barker-Cypress and West roads. A 138,000 sq ft classroom building on the South side and a 55,000 sq ft science classroom building on the north side of campus are already under construction, both of which should be finished in the fall of 2011.
The college also seeks to expand to the Southwest area of Cy-Fair and recently purchased property near Clay and Fry roads. LSCS plans to build a satellite center big enough to serve 3,000 students by fall of 2011 with a new 83,000 sq ft center.
With more building space and more student accommodations comes the need for more parking and ease of transportation. To address this need the college is also constructing additional parking, with 500 spaces on the Northeast side of campus, and 600 spaces on the southwest side. They also plan to lay another road o the west side of campus allowing more access to and from Barker Cypress.
Dr. Bob Williams, Vice President of Administrative Services shared that by doing the parking construction in phases it will not disrupt current parking, and he hopes that the major building additions will be done about the same time. “With the construction all coming up at the same time, we are hoping it will all be completed at the same time,” he said. This means more students served and more space for the community within a relatively short period of time.
