The 18th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Grande Parade goes through central Houston on January 16, beginning at 10:00 am.
It is the third largest parade in the United States behind the Rose Parade in Los Angeles and the Macy’s Day Parade in New York City.
More than 300,000 spectators are expected to line the streets of Houston, with an additional 4,000,000 watching live on television.
Highlights of the parade include 22 marching bands and 10 parade floats.
The one-mile parade route begins in Mid-Town at the corner San Jacinto and Elgin Streets, and ends at San Jacinto and Webster Streets.
Parade marshals include Palmer Williams, Jr., from Tyler Perry Productions, Curly Neal, and Blenda Rodriquez from the Harlem Globetrotters, and Vince Young from the National Football League.
The parade will be broadcast nationally on NBC and to Spanish and Chinese-speaking audiences throughout NTD TV-New York and Univision.
The theme of the parade is “There Is But One Race, and That Is The Human Race”- a powerful message articulated by Dr. King.
