Cypress Creek Lakes – Historically “Green”
Posted on Mar 29, 2010 | Tagged in: Going Green

Going Green is nothing new for residents of Cypress Creek. In fact, they were recycling all the way back to the 1800’s. Just a short drive from Cypress Creek Lakes on Old Hempstead Highway, visitors are welcome every Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. to tour the little blue “recycled house “previously owned by the Juergen family of Cypress.
As evidence by the records the family kept and the many stories that have been told throughout the decades, the Juergen’s were a “waste not” family who rarely saw a reason to throw anything away. Clothes and shoes were recycled among family members and when a building was no longer needed for its original purpose, it was converted and reused for the next use.
The little blue Juergen’s has been many colors and served many purposes, from doctors office, Justice of the Peace and barber shop to a personal residence housing notable tenants including the notable vaudeville actor “Blonde Kerr”, who was born and raised in Cypress.
Today, the Juergen’s house has been restored to its original residential grander at the time “Blonde” lived in the home, complete with bed, washbasin, shaving gear and photographs of the actor. One of the highlights of the historical area, this is a definite must see for residents of Cypress Creek Lakes to grasp the rich history and environmental conscience of their town.
*The Resurrection Fern seen growing on the overhang at the back of the little blue house is a remembrance of the days the house served as a plant nursery.
