Cy-Fair Area Boy Breaks Fishing Record
A 10-year-old aspiring fisherman from the Cy-Fair area hopes to break Lake Conroe’s junior angler records with his most recent catch — a 55-pound, 9-ounce catfish.
Hudson Simmons along with his father, Jimmy, grandfather and a fishing guide, Chris Edwards with Catch a Trophy, hit Lake Conroe for a routine fishing trip on Tuesday, not knowing they were in for a big haul. Once the 55-pound, 9-ounce catfish was finally brought onto the boat, Hudson was overcome with emotions. They were able to take the measurements of the fish, filled out paperwork to have notarized and submit to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department who keeps a running tally of the record fish caught on Lake Conroe as well as other bodies of water in Texas. They are currently reviewing the paperwork so the current record holders have not been updated to reflect Hudson’s catch should it beat the previous catch. The current record holder for a catfish caught on Lake Conroe is from 2011 when a 38-pound,12-ounce catfish was caught.
