The Texas Legislature has made significant changes to the requirements for homestead exemptions.
These affect all types of homestead exemptions, not just the regular homestead exemptions. The changes also affect over-65 exemptions, over-55 surviving spouse exemptions, disability exemptions, and the 100% Disabled Veteran exemptions (all of which are considered homestead exemptions). Any new applications as of September 1 must comply with all requirements.
Effective September 1, 2011, in order to qualify for a residential homestead exemption you must provide HCAD with a copy of either your Texas driver’s license or Texas ID Card. This address must also be the same as the address on your vehicle registration. Attach a copy of your vehicle registration receipt to your homestead application.

In August, Cypress Creek Lakes invited area home shoppers to visit the community and find out why moving to Cypress Creek Lakes was a smart move. The Smart Move Sales Event drew hundreds of visitors, all of which had the chance to register to win an Apple iPad 2 or a $500 back-to-school shopping spree.

Michael Rogers won the Apple iPad 2. Michael is a CPA who lives in the Cypress area now with his wife and two daughters. "We have friends who live here," said Michael. "We like the lakes and lot sizes in Cypress Creek Lakes," he added. (Michael is pictured above with Perry Homes Sales Counselor Stacey Thomas.)

The Lone Star College System CyFair is presenting a series of programs aptly named L.I.F.E. The series Learning, Inspiration, Fellowship, and Enrichment explores art and literature to astronomy. On September 26th the community is invited to join Professor Ronnie Nespeca for a lesson in amateur astronomy and virtual stargazing.
Professor Nespeca will instruct the class on how the legendary heroes from Greek mythology earned their place in the starry heavens in honor of their achievements. Greek and Roman texts, according to information from Princeton University course CLA 212, mentioned the stars frequently. Roman Ptolemy of Alexandria cataloged and grouped 1022 stars into 48 constellations during the second century A.D. His work was the basis for the modern 88 constellations designated by the International Astronomical Union (Pasachoff, 134-135).
