For parents of budding magicians and future scientists, pack up the car and make the short drive into Houston to visit the Houston Museum of Natural Science. Always a worthwhile outing for the whole family, this summer guarantees something very special - the fantastic exhibit “Magic:  The Science of Wonder.”

Running now through September 6th, the exhibit is host to displays of the rich history and facts as to how magicians have incorporated math, science, and wonder into their magical effect shows. Sure to inspire, the exhibit includes artifacts and videos from the history of modern magic.  You and your children will see magical items from Harry Houdini’s to the modern times of such magicians as Penn & Teller and Doug Henning, including the scientific explanation of many wondrous magic tricks.

The Houston Museum of Natural Science is located at 5555 Hermann Park Drive, Houston, TX 77030.  For maps, times, and ticket prices to the Magic exhibit, please visit HMNS.org.  Remember, considering a yearly family membership to the Houston Museum of Natural Science is a great way to see many exhibits during the year at significant discount.  The main museum (excluding special exhibits) offers free admission every Tuesday from 2-6pm!

Sunday, June 24th, Noon-4pm, the first “A Taste of Cy-Fair” will be held to benefit the Layla Grace Foundation of Cy-Fair.  Your whole family can enjoy live music, food samples, and drinks from over 40 local Cy-Fair restaurants, all while helping a good cause and contributing to finding a cure for pediatric cancer.  The tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for children ages 6-12, and free to children under six. There’s also a Family Four-Pack, which is a great savings at only $25.  “A Taste of Cy-Fair” will be held at the Northwest Forest Conference Center, 12715 Telge Road Cypress, TX 77429, and all proceeds will go to benefit the Layla Grace Foundation and its research.

Layla Grace was a courageous child who battled neuroblastoma. Her struggle and her family’s efforts to help her were followed by communities across the area, with fundraisers and support coming from many areas.  Despite every effort by her family and doctors, Laya Grace passed away as a result of her disease. But, resulting from her courageous battle, The Layla Grace Foundation has been formed as a non-profit to help research the future cure for this terrible children’s cancer.  Children everywhere will and do benefit from the love and legacy of Layla Grace, and one day there will be a cure!
